What is a food safety auditor?

Food safety auditors are responsible for providing an independent and impartial assessment of a company’s food safety management system against a recognized standard or set of criteria. Our auditors service a wide variety of food industry segments from farm-to-fork. This includes food & beverage manufacturers, farmers, food packaging companies, food distribution companies, and food retailers.

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

Contract SQF Lead Auditor

Location:

Remote – United States

Position Summary:

ASI is seeking independent contract auditors to conduct food safety and quality audits for food growers, manufacturers, distributors, retailers, and packagers. As part of the audit, the auditor will review the client’s food safety and quality documents as well as the actual site itself. The audits are accredited and require all candidates for this position to be certified to the SQF Scheme.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conducts scheduled audits for food growers, manufacturers, distributors, retailers, and packagers against the respective SQF Code
  • Conducts and confirms follow-up actions, including root cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Coordinate with the scheduling department to minimize costs and improve audit efficiency.
  • Clearly document audit results and findings.
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with supplier partners, employees, supervisors and the general public.
  • Monitor emerging food safety issues and regulatory trends.
  • Travel 90-100% of the time.
  • Adhere to safe work practices and follow clients GMP policies.
  • Represent ASI professionally and ethically.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Microbiology, Environmental Health, Public health, or related field
  • +5 years in the food & beverage industry (preferably quality control)
  • HACCP certified
  • PCQI certified
  • Registered SQF Lead Auditor

Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of GMPs and Food Safety Management Systems
  • Strong ability to communicate both orally and in writing
  • Attention to detail
  • Good judgement
  • Ability to work independently under pressure in a changing environment
  • Excellent computer skills (Microsoft Office)
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex documents
  • Fluent in English
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel by air
  • Must be able to walk and stand for up to 4 hours at a time and maneuver through multi-level sites
